A Friedmann - Lemâıtre - Robertson - Walker cosmological model with running Λ

چکیده

The idea of a variable dark energy has been entertained many times in the literature and from many different points of view. Quintessence is just a popular way to implement this idea in recent times, but so far with little success. Another possibility is to think of the cosmological term, Λ, as a “running quantity” much in the same way as the electromagnetic coupling constant. However, the fact that Λ is a dimension-four parameter implies that it may obey a peculiar renormalization group equation, which at low energies could be dominated by “soft decoupling” contributions of the form Λ ∼ H M P stemming from physics near the Planck scale. This value lies in the ballpark of the measurements from CMB and high-z supernovae. A “renormalized” FLRW cosmology of this kind may reveal itself as a sound, and testable, proposal for a variable Λ model within quantum field theory in curved space time.

Brane-world cosmology with black strings

We consider the simplest scenario when black strings / cigars penetrate the cosmological brane. As a result, the brane has a Swiss-cheese structure, with Schwarzschild black holes immersed in a Friedmann-Lemâıtre-Robertson-Walker brane. There is no dark radiation in the model, the cosmological regions of the brane are characterized by a cosmological constant Λ and flat spatial sections. Regardl...

The present paper seeks to construct a quantum theory of the cosmological constant in which its presently observed very small value emerges naturally. Large scale cosmological observations over the past decade (see references cited in [1], and [2-4]) have provided data which are in accord with the simplest cosmological model LCDM (Λ + Cold Dark Matter) [4-7]. This model is governed by the homog...

Tunneling in Λ Decaying Cosmologies and the Cosmological Constant Problem

The tunneling rate, with exact prefactor, is calculated to first order in h̄ for an empty closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe with decaying cosmological term Λ ∼ R−m ( R is the scale factor and m is a parameter 0 ≤ m ≤ 2 ). This model is equivalent to a cosmology with the equation of state pχ = (m/3 − 1)ρχ. The calculations are performed by applying the diluteinstanton approximation...

Energy Conditions and Supernovae Observations

In general relativity, the energy conditions are invoked to restrict general energy-momentum tensors Tμν on physical grounds. We show that in the standard Friedmann–Lemâıtre–Robertson– Walker (FLRW) approach to cosmological modelling where the equation of state of the cosmological fluid is unknown, the energy conditions provide model-independent bounds on the behavior of the distance modulus of...

Criticality and Averaging in Cosmology

We propose comparing cosmological solutions in terms of their total spatial volumes V (τ ) as functions of proper time τ , assuming synchronous gauge, and with this intention evaluate the variations of V (τ ) about the Friedmann-Lemâıtre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) solutions for dust. This can be done successfully in a simple manner without solving perturbation equations. In particular, we find tha...
